HOW TO ORGANIZE
YOUR FIRST YOGA RETREAT!
Organizing your own yoga retreat can be a rewarding experience. I have been running overseas and local retreat for the past 14 years and wanted to provide a comprehensive checklist to guide you through the process if you are thinking about running a retreat but don’t know where to start:
WHAT YOU’LL FIND:
Preretreatplanning
Pre-Retreat Planning
1
DEFINE YOUR PURPOSE AND GOALS
What is the theme or focus of your retreat (e.g., relaxation, detox, personal growth)?
What outcomes do you wish to achieve for participants?
How many participants can you comfortably handle?
How many days do you feel comfortable with?
CHOOSE THE LOCATION
Research and select a location that aligns with your retreat's purpose (e.g., beach, mountains, forest location),
Consider renting a villa (AirBnB), or choose a resort/location that accommodates yoga retreats,
Go through online platforms, yoga communities, and read recent reviews,
When negotiating, ask if they offer discounts or complimentary stays for organizers; emphasize the potential for future bookings,
Red flags to watch for include slow response times, lack of clarity in pricing and policies, and unprofessional communication.
2
3
SELECT DATE
Choose a time of year that’s convenient and ensure you have ample time for planning,
Also check locations weather the time you want to book and try and book outside of peak times ie school holidays.
ESTABLISH A BUDGET
List all potential costs (venue, food, transportation/transfer, marketing, your accommodation, your flights etc.),
Determine pricing for participants based on your budget.
4
Check local regulations for hosting events,
Obtain liability insurance if you don’t already have it.
